Bosnia and Herzegovina Security Minister Dragan Mektic has said that there are no terrorist training camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina but that there are followers of radical ideologies in the country.
“There are no terrorist training camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina, if there were, we would surely know about them,” Mektic said in an interview for the Federation BiH (FENA) news agency and the Chinese Xinhua news agency, published on Sunday.
He said that there was a smaller number of Bosnian citizens who were followers of extremist ideologies, noting that around 130 Bosnian citizens who belonged to the radical Wahhabi movement had been or were still in Syria and Iraq, fighting on the side of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation.
Forty-three Bosnian citizens have been killed while fighting on the side of IS, while around 50 have returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mektic said that four Bosnian citizens were fighting in Ukraine, and that they faced prison sentences of five years for involvement in fighting abroad.
