HDZ says interior minister misusing police for election purposes

The opposition Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said on Tuesday that a ban on visiting the southern Prevlaka peninsula with no explanation indicated that Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic was misusing the police for election purposes to conceal the construction of a refugee reception centre there and to prevent the HDZ from political activity.

Tens of thousands of migrants have been entering Croatia undisturbed across illegal border crossings for days, while Croatian citizens, farmers, journalists and an HDZ delegation are banned from visiting Prevlaka without explanation, the party said in a press release. “But with a clear intention – to try and hide the truth that Prime Minister Milanovic and Minister Ostojic have started building a collection centre on Prevlaka.”
The HDZ said Ostojic was misusing the police for election purposes, among other things, to prevent the HDZ’s political activity.
HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko and a party delegation were supposed to visit Prevlaka on Tuesday but were prevented by the police.
