Early Friday morning Hungary started building a temporary fence along the border with Croatia, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced, as several hundred Hungarian police and soldiers were sent to the Hungarian-Croatian border, MTI news agency reported.

Orban told Kossuth radio that the fence would be 41 kilometres long and that this “preliminary line of defence” would be completed in the course of the day. “We must take the same action we took along the Serbian-Hungarian border,” he said.
The prime minister said that efforts now needed to be made to put a stop to the illegal migrations and to end this “business chain”. “We know who organised the attack on Hungary from Serbian territory,” Orban said, adding that “a terrorist” had already been arrested by the Hungarian authorities.
