Israeli jets struck military targets in the Gaza Strip before dawn Wednesday, Palestinian security officials and Israeli media said.

The planes carried out two separate airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip and western parts of Gaza city, officials in Gaza’s Interior Ministry said.

No injuries were reported.

Witnesses said the strikes targeted training facilities belonging to Gaza militant groups.

The airstrikes were in response to the firing of two rockets from the coastal enclave into southern Israel, which were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defence system, according to Israeli public radio.

Israeli army officials blamed the rockets on the Islamist Hamas movement, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007.

Over the past several months, radical militant groups that support the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq have been claiming responsibility for rockets fired from Gaza into Israel.
