Seoul (dpa) – The Koreas are to hold reunions next month of families separated by the Korean War in a deal sealed on Tuesday.
The reunions of 100 separated families each from North and South Korea will take place at the Mount Kumgang resort on the North between October 20 and 26, the Yonhap News Agency reported.
Talks on the reunions started Monday following a deal in late August to defuse tensions between the two countries.
The recent escalation culminated in an exchange of artillery fire across the border. Organizing family reunions was a part of the climbdown deal.
The reunions will be the first since February 2014.
The Korean War of 1950-53 ended in a ceasefire rather than an peace treaty, leaving the two states in a technical state of war.
