Nikkei plunges 2.5 per cent on profit-taking, US losses


Tokyo (dpa) – Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average plummeted 2.5 per cent on Thursday following overnight losses on Wall Street, as investors sold shares to lock in profits after yesterday’s 7.7-per-cent surge.

The Nikkei lost 470.89 points, or 2.51 per cent, to close at 18,299.62 after falling as much as 4.34 per cent.

The Nikkei soared 7.71 per cent on Wednesday.

The broader Topix index was down 27.85 points, or 1.84 per cent, to end at 1479.52. The Topix gained 6.4 per cent on Wednesday.
