Hungary will build a fence along portions of its border with Croatia, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with Austrian newspaper Die Presse published on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
“We have decided to build a fence also on the border with Romania,” Orban was quoted as saying in the interview posted on Die Presse’s website. “We will also erect a fence at certain locations on the Croatian border,” he said.
After Hungary on Tuesday closed its border with Serbia to prevent migrants and refugees from illegally entering its territory, they headed for Croatia en route to Germany and Sweden. Romania is another possible route as neither it nor Croatia are in the Schengen Area.
Building fences only means transferring the problem to Croatia, Serbia and Romania, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has said.
