Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said on Tuesday that she would call a parliamentary election on Monday.
She was responding to a question from Croatian reporters covering her visit to New York to attend the 70th session of the UN general Assembly.
Speaking of the migrant crisis in Croatia, she said, “Of course we don’t have the capacities for that, but this should have been discussed in the summer. I was constantly warning about it and I’m warning that Croatia is still acting as though it is outside the European Union and as though we have to follow, instead of create European policies. It was necessary to sit down and firmly demand answers as to what we would do with the people when they started going through Croatia.”
Grabar-Kitarovic took part in a round table on women’s empowerment in Eastern Europe. She told reporters she spoke about the need to strengthen the position of women in national societies and globally.
