A slate of candidates for the forthcoming Croatian parliamentary election that does not meet the requirement of at least 40% of candidates of either gender may be submitted and will be considered valid but those who submit such lists in which one of the genders is under-represented below 40% may expect a fine up to HRK 50,000.

According to a press release issued by the Croatian Election Commission (DIP), any 14-candidate list with less than 6 candidates of either gender will be considered valid but those who submit such lists can be fined up to 50,000 kuna.

Slates for ten constituencies in Croatia have to have 14 candidates, while slates with candidates representing the Croatian expat community may have a lower number of candidates, at least 6 and maximum 14, however, all of them are expected to abide by the 40% quota for genders.
