Vucic: Serbia ready for open dialogue on refugee crisis

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia is willing to discuss possible solutions to the current refugee crisis with all partners in the region, in Europe and globally.

“Serbia is ready for an open dialogue with all regional, European and international partners on possible solutions to the migrant crisis,” Vucic’s office said in a statement on Monday after the Serbian PM met with the head of the UNHCR Office in Serbia, Hans Friedrich Schodder, with whom he talked about the migrant crisis and the UNHCR’s assistance to the Serbian authorities in dealing with it.

Schodder said the UNHCR supported the Serbian government’s efforts to resolve the crisis, noting that the closing of some of the borders in recent days had made the UN agency’s help even more necessary.

He suggested that the Serbian government should ensure more temporary accommodation facilities and called for greater European solidarity, notably in the coming winter period.
