US Secretary of State John Kerry plans to travel to the Middle East in the coming week to meet with officials in Israel and the West Bank amid ongoing violence in the area, the US State Department announced Saturday.

The chief US diplomat is scheduled to fly to Abu Dhabi on Sunday before moving on for talks in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Ramallah. The talks will be focussed on “stopping the violence in Israel, Jerusalem and the West Bank,” according to the State Department, as well as on Syria and Islamic State.

Five people were killed in recent days after Palestinian attacks in Israel and the West Bank.
