US Secretary of State John Kerry said in Belgrade on Wednesday evening that Serbia and its Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic enjoyed his country’s full support in the process of integration with the European Union.

Serbia’s integration with the EU will benefit the country’s economy, its citizens and its further prosperity, Kerry said before holding a closed-door meeting with Vucic.

Kerry arrived in Belgrade earlier in the day to attend a two-day session of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Kerry said that he and Vucic discussed decisions Serbia was making to improve the economic situation and attract foreign investors in order to catch up with the global economy.

The US official, who arrived in Belgrade after visiting Pristina, commended Serbia’s initiative for dialogue with Pristina.

He said that he respected Vucic’s initiative to enter dialogue with the Kosovo government, leave the past behind and try to find a future that would be better and more prosperous for all people living in Kosovo.

Kerry said the USA shares the interest of all countries in the region in a joint response to violent extremism affecting Europe, the Middle East and other parts of the world.

Vucic expressed gratitude for the USA’s support to Belgrade on its EU path and pointed to increasingly good relations with the USA.

This is the first time Kerry is visiting western Balkans in his capacity as US Secretary of State. After Belgrade, he will visit Cyprus and Greece.
