Foreign ministers Sergey Lavrov of Russia and Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey met in Belgrade on Thursday on the fringes of an OSCE ministerial meeting, but no details of their talks have been divulged to the media.
This was the first time for Turkish and Russian officials to meet after Turkey downed a Russian military aircraft on the border with Syria on 24 November.
The meeting of the two ministers was anticipated following Wednesday’s statement by Lavrov that he wanted Turkey to clarify its position on the 24 November incident.
The Russian minister said that it would be sad if Turkey did not offer any new explanation.
The meeting of the two ministers began at 1530 hrs Thursday and later in the afternoon sources from the two countries’ delegations said the talks were over but did not reveal any information about the contents.
