A multilingual electronic display was erected at the site of a synagogue in the Croatian seaport of Rijeka which was destroyed during the Second World War, and the ceremony of staging the display was organised on Wednesday within commemorations of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed on 27 January.

The display, providing information in six languages, was formally unveiled by Mayor Vojko Obersnel, and this project was initiated by pupils of a local elementary school who were covered by an international programme conducted by the Holocaust Education Trust Ireland in Croatian schools.

Rijeka’s Grand Synagogue was built by the local Jewish community in 1903 and was destroyed on January 25, 1944 during the Nazi occupation of Rijeka.
