Slovenia waiting for new Croatian gov’t to regulate refugee flow

Slovenia’s Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec said on Monday that Croatia, that was in the process of forming a new government, could not now take an active part in the regulation of the influx of migrants.

Slovenia does not want to become a hot spot for migrants if Germany and Austria close their borders, however, in order to ration the intake of migrants it is necessary to ensure cooperation of countries along the Balkan route, Erjavec said in Brussels on the fringes of a ministerial meeting.

“We cannot expect anything from Croatia before it forms a new government. This is a problem, given that the outgoing caretaker cabinet does not attend meetings on the regulation of migrants’ influx and does not want to deal with the issue,” the Slovenian official said.

He did not want to comment on announcements from Austria that it would impose new, tighter rules for the arrival of migrants from Slovenia in its territory as of Wednesday.
