The fourth edition of the International Authentic Creative Conference "MAKK 2016" is officially opened on Thursday, 17. November, in Zagreb's "Museum of Contemporary Art". This year's "MAKK" was marked by the great interest of creators from various spheres of the cultural industry, from music and film to literature and design, as well as numerous representatives of media and PR agencies and experts in the field of copyright.
As an introduction to numerous interesting panel discussions and lectures on the first day of "MAKK", with the musical performance of the young Slavonian singer Mije Dimšić, visitors to the conference addressed Iva Hraste Sočo, Assistant Minister of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Ana Rački Marinković, deputy director of the DZIV , Gordana Deranja, President of the Croatian Employers' Association and Ante Pecotić, President of the Croatian Society of Composers, Conference Organizer.
They all stressed the importance of cultural and creative industries and the need for greater involvement of this sector in Croatia's economic strategy.
Presentation of the conference was opened by French expert Vincent Robert (Société d'Avocats), presenting the current copyright reform and challenges that the announced digital single market conceals for creators as well as creative content users online.
Particularly interesting was the panel discussion "Creative Content and Digital Services - Where I Am Here ?!" in which Aleksandra Kovač, Suzanne Combo (International Artists Organization), Nenad Marčec (HDS ZAMP), Branko Skendžić (Deezer Croatia) and producer Srdjan Sekulovic Scans, with moderator Milan Majerovic Stilinovic.
Issues such as the earnings of authors and performers of digital music consumption, the recent dispute between YouTube and the German GEMA and the future of digital services, especially for young musicians, have also provoked the active participation of the MAKK audience.
"Authors are the foundation, they provide content and without them there is no system," the panel's conclusion is.
Tonči Huljić and Igor Barberic, together with Mira Gavrana, the core of the musical "Patients", in a conversation with Nataša Božić presented a creative and business story of musical creation, and announced the recent continuation of collaboration on the new music-scene project. As a musical surprise, Damir Kedžo, one of the protagonists of the musical, made the song "Mastermind" causing the ovations of the assembled.
What Croatian cultural and political institutions can learn from French practice when it comes to protecting and promoting a domestic cultural product was the main issue of the panel discussion "The French Work Better: What Can We Learn From It?". Dr Luc Lévy, director of the French Institute, Antun Tomislav Šaban, head of the Croatian Society of Composers, Danilo Šerbedžija, President of the Society of Croatian Film Directors and musicians and authors Darko Rundek under the leadership of Daniela Trbović, about French and Croatian experiences in music, film and culture and Tinkara Kovač.
An impressive lecture on the influence of film music on viewers and the movie experience, with several improvised live music shows, was held by Aleksandra Kovač, Belgrade author and producer. The program of the first day of "MAKK" was concluded with the screening of the movie "Generation" 68. "Nenada Puhovskog, who was interviewed by Andrija Škar, Darko Rundek, author of music for the film.
