One of the cult youth clubs in Zagreb, Medika, could soon close their doors. It is not by force, but by virtue of the Invitation of the City Office for Property and Property Affairs and Property of the City, who from the users of that space in Piorotti is seeking eviction no later than 16. this month.
- Dear and respected, we invite you to a press conference on Friday, 12. May in the 11 Hours in the "Siva" Gallery within the complex of the former Medika drugstore, Pierotti's 11. The conference was attended by the City of Zagreb City Office for Property and Property Affairs and the Property of the City of Zagreb for surrendering the space required to vacate and vacate the user within eight days (the deadline is Tuesday, 16.5.2017.). This culmination letter is a multi-annual process of systematic practice of breaking and closing the places of independent culture in the city of Zagreb, and the pressure on Medika by the city authorities has lasted for a long time.
At the conference will be the users of the Medika area: Sunčica Remenar, member of the Autonomous Cultural Center ATTACK !, Miron Milić, an academic painter and one of the most successful Croatian artists, Nikola Mijatović, representative of the Cirkorama association and Sara Ercegović, music artist.
The space of the former drug factory "Medika" has for the past ten years been one of the key centers of independent culture and youth in the city of Zagreb, a refuge of numerous artists, creators, cultural workers, civil society associations, independent collectives and individuals. It should not be forgotten that the Medika space is a city area where programs of individual associations and individuals are financed by the City Office for Education, Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Culture of Croatia, the Croatian Audiovisual Center and other domestic and foreign donors for the last ten years systematically neglected in infrastructure maintenance.
Given that the dialogue between the representatives of the organizations and the collections of the Medici users and the city authorities was ignored, we forced our voice to be public and on that occasion we organized an extraordinary press conference - says in a call to the Medike media space user's press conference tomorrow.
Although the official response of the City of Zagreb until the conclusion of this text has not been received and the Medici users do not want much to reveal before the announced press conference, it speculates that the reason for the urgent eviction - the construction of the Congress Center.
Mayor Milan Bandrecalled, he has repeatedly announced the construction of the Congress Center, which is one of his pre-election projects, and this seems to be the reason for the possible closure of Medica. In addition, the Westin hotel itself was referred to as the best location for the future Congress Center.
It threatened to close the apple, threatened to overwhelm the space where the Tuškanac cinema is located, the survival of the Ferdinand Budicki car museum is questionable, and the survival of the young Zagreb favorite alternative to Medika is questionable. What's next ?!
